SPECIAL NEEDS

In this department we satisfy the needs of PWSN, with the cooperation of PANDEKTIS, a Non Government Organizations for the PWSN.

PANDEKTIS operates as a Pan Cyprian network of Non Government Organizations and accepts as its members non government organizations of PWSN, in two ways.

  • as regular members
  • as non connected members.

PANDEKTIS cooperates with the following 20 organizations.

  • Cyprus European Social Forum
  • Pan Cyprian Organization for rehabilitation of invalid persons.
  • The friends of the disabled in Limassol.
  • The association of parents and friends of children with special needs.
  • The parents association of the children’s infirmary of the Red Cross.
  • The parents association of St Lucas special school.
  • The “ St John” center for senior citizens.
  • The association of persons with eye problems.
  • The Pan Cyprian association for thalassemic persons.
  • The youth of the European Social Forum.
  • The “Protovoulia” committee of parents and custodians of children with special needs.
  • The Center of Expression and Human development.
  • The “ATLAS” athletic union for persons with special needs.
  • The “Alexander the Great” athletic union for persons with special needs.
  • The “Efaistos” athletic union for persons with special needs.
  • The “Konadji” home.
  • The movement of parents of persons with special needs.
  • The Day & Athletics center.
  • The Day & Training center.
  • The Day & Information center.

This department promotes the implementation of programs that would satisfy the needs of the member organizations such as:

  • Professional training for persons with special needs.
  • The acquisition of skills, in order to improve their quality of life.
  • Consultive and instructive support, for persons with special needs.
  • To involve persons with special needs into the society.
  • To inform the general public and to fight social discrimination against persons with special needs.
  • The support for young persons with special needs, who are studying in our schools.
  • To encourage persons with special needs to participate in Cypriot and European programs.

These programs are promoted not only through Cypriot programs such as the YMA, the Welfare Office, the Youth Organization and other organizations, but also through European programs such as Leonardo Da Vinci, EQUAL, Youth, etc.

Any European citizen, as a natural person, who would like to participate can become a member or the ESFC, in the department for persons with special needs.

The basic target of “PANDEKTIS” to-day, is to create a modern multi-center, where persons with special needs can find what they need, starting with SECURITY and COMPANIONSHIP during the day.

For this purpose it supports:

  • The Day & Athletics center.
  • The Day & Training center.
  • The Day & Information center.

During the year 2003, 13 high school teachers have attended the “SPECIAL EDUCATION” 50 hour course, provided by “Leonardo Da Vinci”.

During the year 2005 15 persons with special needs, attended a 3 weeks course, on Polish cooking and pastry making in Poland.

Through YOUTH programs, many young people with special needs visited various European countries and also hosted PWSN from European countries in Cyprus.
