VOLUNTEERISM WEEK 1 – 8/12/2010
INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, NOVEMBER 3

The Lyceum of Agios Ioannis in Limassol in cooperation with the Non Government Organization “European Social Forum Cyprus”. Organized, with great success the first open discussion on the subject:

“THE ROLE OF THE YOUNG VOLUNTEER AND THE RIGHT FOR AN INDEPENDENT LIFE for Persons with Disabilities”

The meeting took place at 11 am on December 7 in the library of Ayios Ioannis Lyceum, in Limassol.

Spokesmen:

  • Mr Stavros Olympios representing the Pancyprian Council of Volunteerism. He spoke on the role of volunteerism in Cyprus to-day and the standards it has reached. He also invited the youth to actively participate.
  • Mr Chrysis Michaelides, representing the ESFC spoke on the role of the European Union in defending the rights of Persons with Disabilities as they are safeguarded by the United Nations Convention. During the general assembly in Brussels organized by the EDF, in cooperation with the Council of Europe on December 3, in which the ESFC participated, a reference was made regarding the course and the prospective of the Convention.
  • And Mr Yiannakis Christoforou representing the program: “Independent Living” for persons with disabilities, with the support of the Pancyprian Organization of Persons with Disabilities.
